Trend Report: Sneakers
January 16, 2015

If you consider yourself a bit of a fashion industry insider you might already be familiar with the concept of “athleisure.” It’s a funny little word that refers to the more recent casual-looking trends, seen in everything from staple brands to designer collections—especially for Spring 2015. It also refers to wearing the more upscale, gym-ready pieces you’ve already got in your closet like sneakers, leggings, knit pants, and track jackets outside of the gym as a fashion statement. As many people strive to maintain healthier, more active lifestyles, it’s understandable that they would want a wardrobe that transitions easily from work to workouts to weekend play.

Now, this doesn’t mean you’ve got to give up your more classic favorites–we love our dress shoes and riding boots as much as the next Shoe Lover. However, this new style shift makes cool trends like retro sneakers and skate shoes popular for everyone—kids included! Some of our favorite styles are below, but keep an eye out for even more looks as spring approaches. This comfy, cool trend isn’t going away soon.

Retro-inspired New Balance shoes have our vote. Comfortable, easy to wear, and SO cute with denim or leggings. Try ’em also with casual basics like a denim shirtdress—or if you’re feeling bold, a flowing skirt.
