LIFE AFTER HEELS
Epic Shoe Love

“I have always been a Shoe Lover. And as a size 11, DSW has always been my go-to place for stylish heels! But things changed pretty drastically a few years ago. My spine became affected by lupus, which in turn confined me to a wheelchair. After a couple of years of not being able to wear my heels, I finally broke down and donated them ALL to an organization geared toward helping women get back out into the workforce. It was bittersweet. I was happy to be able to help others, but of course I was sad—each pair of shoes told a story. Today, I am lucky to be able to walk with a walker. I’m still not able to wear heels, but I have replenished my “shoe wardrobe.” I have been able to find some really cute flats and riding boots from DSW! The only problem is, because I'm not as mobile as I used to be, I can't sneak my shoes in the house like I did in the past. My husband always knows when I have a new pair of shoes. You should have seen his reaction when I had seven pairs delivered in one week!

And yes…we're still married!”
